Canadian-Celtic harpist Alys Howe has appeared as a performer and recording artist throughout North America, Scotland, and Ireland. Her debut CD Phosphorescence combines innovative arrangements of traditional tunes, new compositions, and songs in both Scots and Gaelic. Unique among Celtic harpists, Alys was the first overseas harp student accepted to the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy, went on to obtain her Masters from University of Limerick, and later studied and taught at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton. Alys has worked with many of the most celebrated Celtic harp players of today, and has won several awards in Scottish music competitions.
Weaving together three strands from our Celtic-Canadian inheritance, Alys Howe’s performances celebrate the diversity of musical culture in Canada.
