Short Bio

The harp sparkles beneath the fingers of this award-winning performer, whose speciality is music springing from Scottish and Irish traditions.

Canadian-Celtic harpist Alys Howe has appeared as a performer and recording artist throughout North America, Scotland, and Ireland.  Her album Phosphorescence combines innovative arrangements of traditional tunes, new compositions, and songs in both Scots and Gaelic.  Alys was the first overseas harp student accepted to the Royal Scottish Academy, obtained her Masters from University of Limerick, and later studied and taught at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton.

Weaving together three strands from our Celtic-Canadian inheritance, Alys Howe’s performances celebrate the diversity of musical culture in Canada.
